On the Death Sentence Against 22 Baha'is in Shiraz

Hojatol-Eslam Qaza'i, Religious Judge/ABf Translation
Khabar-e Jonub newspaper
February 22, 1983
Interview

Issue #782 page 5

In response to our question regarding the death sentence against the 22 members of the Baha'i organization in Shiraz, the Religious Judge [President of Shiraz Islamic Revolutionary Tribunal] said:

the Iranian people have risen to establish God's rule on earth. So it cannot tolerate the deviant Baha'is who are the instruments of the devil and the pseudo-devils

"Following the Koranic precepts and with God's will, the Iranian people have risen to establish God's rule on earth. So it cannot tolerate the deviant Baha'is who are the instruments of the devil and the pseudo-devils, the superpowers, and their agents including the Israel's House of Justice. It is clear that there is no room, whatsoever, for Baha'ism and Baha'is in the Islamic Republic of Iran. ...These people say that ‘we have not participated in the demonstrations against the idolatrous [regime]. We have not chanted slogans against the idolatrous regime. We have not participated in any of the Islamic Republic's votes from the one that changed the monarchy to the Islamic Republic to the last one, which concerned the Assembly of Experts because all this is politics and, from a religious perspective, we condemn participation in politics. We have our own elections and the Baha'i organization is independent, we have our own association, our own receptions and conferences.'

So we can see that these...children of the Devil and mercenaries of the Israel's House of Justice have created an organization and a government, no matter how ridiculous, in the face of the government and the organization of Islam. Ironically, they say that ‘we are submitted to the government and that whatever the government says, we are submitted.' However, this is only a pretext to hide the fact that they are acting independently from the people.

Their religious beliefs calls the Baha'is to follow the House of Justice and the House of Justice, based on the Baha'i religion has the duty to follow the Israeli regime.

Here, I use this opportunity to warn all fair-minded Baha'is to embrace dear Islam and ...recant Baha'ism, which is rationally and logically condemned, before it is too late

All that said, the Baha'is are not arrested only because they are Baha'is. Those arrested are the active members of their organization who have direct or indirect relations with the House of Justice....and are a good example of those who ‘spread disbelief' and are kofar harbi [refers to those unbelievers who live in areas outside Muslim rule and who have no rights, not even the right to live*]

The Head of the Islamic Republic of Shiraz said: I hereby declare to the Baha'is (or the Baha'is should know) that if they follow the Islamic Republic Regime and its constitution, Article 13 of the constitution deems illegal any activity for Baha'is and considers a crime the organization of committees, councils, or receptions and any such activities....

Here, I use this opportunity to warn all fair-minded Baha'is to embrace dear Islam and ...recant Baha'ism, which is rationally and logically condemned, before it is too late. Because soon, a day will come when the Muslim nation will deal with the Baha'is the way they dealt with the Monafeqin (the hypocrites,...)...who have diabolic religious pretexts and will carry out its religious duty (ie...) and Baha'is should know that ...the Hezbollah Umma will have no difficulty uprooting them.

Regarding the sentence of the approximately 25 members of the Baha'i organization, he said: the individuals who have been sentenced to death were active members of Baha'ism from the evil of whom innocent people were not safe.

he individuals who have been sentenced to death were active members of Baha'ism from the evil of whom innocent people were not safe

Their association with satans inside and outside [the country] and their enmity with Islam and Muslims are to a large measure obvious."

*Dar al-Harb (Arabic: دار الحرب "house of war") is a term used to refer to those areas outside Muslim rule. The term traditionally refers to those lands administered by non-Muslim governments. The exact definitions of these territories can vary widely according to the viewer's concept of who is and is not a Muslim, and which governments are or are not Muslim in practice. The inhabitants of the Dar al-Harb are called harbi (Arabic: ربي), as opposed to dhimmi. A harbi has no rights, not even the right to live. If a harbi wants to enter the territory of Islam (dar al-islam) he needs a safe-conduct pass called an aman
