About this Case

The information about Mr. Mohammad Behkish is based on an interview conducted on June 11, 2005 with a person close to him. He was a student in the Mashhad Institute Technology and a sympathizer of the Fadayian Khalq Organization (Minority). Mr. Behkish had joined the Fadayian Khalq Organization in November of 1976, before the split between the two factions of the Organization, and went underground. On March 14, 1982, he was shot and killed in the street by machinegun. He was not armed at the time. His burial place is not known. He was the father of two years old boy. His sister and three brothers, who were all sympathizers of the Fadayian Khalq Organization (3 members of the Minority faction, and one the Majority Faction), were also killed. Zahra died under torture in 1983, Mohsen was executed in 1985, and Mahmud and Mohammad Ali were executed in 1988.

The Fadayian Khalq Organization, a Marxist Leninist group inspired by the Cuban Revolution and the urban guerilla movements of Latin America, was founded in 1971 by two communist groups opposed to the Pahlavi regime. Following the 1979 revolution, the Organization, which had renounced armed struggle, split over their support of the Islamic Republic and of the Soviet Union. The Fadayian Khalq Minority opposed the Islamic Republic and was mainly active in the political arena and the labor movement.
