The execution of Mr. Hossein Talkhabi, and another individual by the name of Abolfazl Dehqan, was reported in two November 2001 Amnesty International Urgent Actions. Additional information has been drawn from the Iran newspaper (September 16, 2001).

According to the Iran newspaper, Mr. Talkhabi, also known as Hossein Rish, was the head of a 40-member crime ring, the members of which were accused of sex and drug related crimes.

The validity of the criminal charges brought against this defendant cannot be ascertained in the absence of the basic guarantees of a fair trial. International human rights organizations have drawn attention to reports indicating that the Islamic Republic’s authorities have brought trumped up charges against their political opponents and executed them for drug trafficking, sexual, and other criminal offences.
