About this Case

Mr. Aziz Qoli Mohammadian is one of the 12028 individuals listed in an addendum to the Mojahed magazine (No 261), published by Mojahedin Khalq Organization in 1985. The list includes individuals, affiliated with various opposition groups, who were executed or killed during clashes with the Islamic Republic security forces from June 1981 to the publication date of the magazine.

Further information was sent to Omid via an electronic form by a person familiar with this case. Mr. Mohammadian was an electrical engineer and a father of four. He was one of the followers of Dr. Shapur Bakhtiar. The latter was a lawyer and pro-democracy advocate; he was the head of the Iran Party (a social democratic party) and the last prime minister during the Shah’s regime. Dr. Bakhtiar was the founder and leader of the first organized opposition movement against the Islamic regime and was assassinated by Iranian security forces in France.

Arrest and detention

According to the form, Mr. Mohammadian was arrested on August 5, 1980 at around 10 am, in Tehran. He was first detained at the Gezelhessar Prison and was later transferred to the Evin Prison. His family was not informed of the location of his detention and it was only months after his arrest that they located him. Mr. Mohammadian was allowed visitation for a short period of time every 3 or 4 months. He was denied legal counsel.
