About this Case

The execution of Mr. Ahmad Bakhshi was reported by many sources, including Kayhan Newspaper and Fars News Service on November 16, 2009.  Additional information has been gathered from IRNA News Service Website (June 27, 2009) and Balagh-e-Mazandaran (July 3, 2012).

Mr. Bakhshi was 24 years old, from Qa’em Shahr in Mazandaran, and living in that city (Kayhan Newspaper, November 16, 2009).

According to available information, Mr. Bakhshi’s case was related to an incident of rape, in February/March of 2006, in Qa’em Shahr.  He had a criminal record, including robbery, illegal relations, and kidnapping (Kayhan Newspaper, November 16, 2009).

Arrest and detention

Police arrested Mr. Bakhshi one year after this crime was committed.  A female student filed a complaint with the police, stating that she had been raped by three men.  She identified the culprits, including Mr. Bakhshi.  Mr. Bakhshi had been evading arrest for a year (Fars News Service). The detailed circumstances of Mr. Bakhshi’s arrest and detention are not known.

Trial

The Criminal court of Mazandaran Province tried Mr. Bakhshi and two co-defendants at the Ministry of Justice of Qa’em Shahr (Kayhan Newspaper).  No information is available on this trial.

Charges

The Criminal Court of Mazandaran Province accused Mr. Bakhshi of “rape”.  He and two accomplices were  accused of abducting a female student, taking her to “Talar” Forest Park (Balagh, Mazandaran), raping her, and abandoning her in the middle of Qa’em Shahr (Fars News Service).  One of Mr. Bakhshi’s accomplices had posed as a taxi driver and picked up the female student, who was originally from Tehran.  He then picked up the other two, and they kidnapped the girl.  

Evidence of guilt

According to available information, the testimony of the victim, and her identification of Mr. Bakhshi and his accomplices, were entered as evidence in court (Fars News Service).  The report of this execution does not contain detailed information regarding the evidence providedagainst the defendant.

Defense

No information is available on Mr. Bakhshi’s defense.

Judgment

On July 18, 2007, the Criminal Court of Mazandaran Province sentenced Mr. Bakhshi to ‘public hanging’. According to the written judgement, issued on April 22, 2008, Section 16 of the Supreme court approved his sentence (Kayhan Newspaper).  

Mr. Bakhshi was executed in public, on the morning of November 15, 2009, in Velayat Square, Qa’em Shahr (Kayhan Newspaper). There is no information on the details of the verdict leading to this execution.
