About this Case

News of the execution of Mr. Masur Kargar was published on the websites of the Hormozgan General Courthouse on February 26, 2015, and HRANA (Human Rights Activists News Agency) on February 28, 2015. Mr. Kargar was a farmer and his case was related to the murder of a married man.  

Arrest and detention

Mr. Kargar was arrested based on a judicial order by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bastak, Hormozgan. His arrested took place during the investigation regarding the murder of Mr. H. F. (Hormozgan General Courthouse) The circumstances of his arrest and detention are not known.

Trial

The Criminal Court of Hormozgan tried Mr. Kargar. No information is available on his trial.

Charges

According to the Hormozgan Courthouse, the charge brought against Mr. Kargar was announced as “murder.”   

The validity of the criminal charges brought against this defendant cannot be ascertained in the absence of the basic guarantees of a fair trial.

Evidence of guilt

According to the statement issued by the Hormozgan Courthouse, Mr. Kargar’s “confession” had been the basis for the ruling against him. According to this confession, he had committed the murder with a weapon and with the collaboration of the victim’s wife. The evidence presented against Mr. Kargar was a Kalashnikov rifle, a combat bullet, and a red, overturned Peugeot 405 near the location of the recovered body.

International human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran for its systematic use of severe torture and solitary confinement to obtain confessions from detainees and have questioned the authenticity of confessions obtained under duress.

No information is available on Mr. Kargar’s defense.

Judgment

The Criminal Court of Hormozgan condemned Mr. Masur Kargar to death. Branch Seven of the Supreme Court confirmed the ruling. He was hanged in the presence of the victim’s family in Bandar-e Abbas Prison on February 26, 2015.
