About this Case

The news of the execution of Mr. Abbas Rohanizadeh was announced by reports in Jomhouri Eslami and Kayhan on July 8, 1981.

Mr. Rohanizadeh, 23, industrial worker, and a supporter of the Mojahedin Khalq Organization, is also one of the 12,028 individuals listed in an addendum to the Mojahed magazine (No 261), published by Mojahedin Khalq Organization in 1985. The list includes individuals, affiliated with various opposition groups, who were executed or killed during clashes with the Islamic Republic security forces from June 1981 to the publication date of the magazine.

The circumstances of this Mr. Rohanizadeh’s arrest and detention are not known.

Based on the available information the Qa’em Shahr Islamic Revolutionary Tribunal issued Mr. Rohanizadeh’s sentence. No information is available on Mr. Rohanizadeh’s trial.

Charges

According to the Jomhouri Eslami report Mr. Rohanizadeh was charged with “activity, leadership and involvement in clashes in support of the Mojahedin Khalq Organization against the Islamic Republic while possessing cables, stones and cartridge belts, and injuring a number of steadfast Muslims.” According to Kayhan , however, Mr. Rohanizadeh and three other individuals were charged with actively participating in clashes of the American grouplets, leadership of the Hypocrites in this town [Qa’em Shahr], disarming the Revolutionary Guards, assault and battery, and participating in May 4 clashes in Qa’em Shahr.

Judgment

The Qa’em Shahr Islamic Revolutionary Tribunal found Mr. Rohanizadeh guilty of waging war on God and God’s Prophet, rebellion, and corruption on earth, and sentenced him to death. The Supreme Judicial Council affirmed this verdict. Mr. Rohanizadeh was executed by a firing squad on the side of the Shirgah-Qa’em Shahr road on July 7, 1981. Mr. Rohanizadeh was 23 years old at the time of his execution.
